The Balm: Meet Matt(e) Eye Shadow Palette Review

June 4, 2013

Most of my posts start with a comment apologizing for traveling or not having wifi or some other lame excuse: Tuesdays are my traveling days, I guess.  This time I am reporting from Camden, ME.  I can't wait to show you pictures from this trip - So beautiful AND IT HAS INTERNET!!

This makes me miss wifi so, so badly, but at least I am posting from my laptop (thank God, because the Blogger App needs a lot of help). I hope this post will be better because I have no excuse haha

I've really wanted to post a review of The Balm's Meet Matt(e) Eye Shadow Palette for the past couple of weeks.

I have been looking for a matte eye shadow palette FOREVER and could never bring myself to purchase the Naked palettes since most of the colors are so glittery and/or iridescent.

What really caught my attention with Meet Matt(e) was the packaging. The premise that you are meeting a 6'3 nude man is kind of cheesy, but the eyeshadow names interested me.  I wasn't sure if I hated it or liked it: While the photo on the front is of the most Y T dude ever, the names inside tried to be more diverse.

I think being inclusive in marketing is hard.  You will always offend someone and you will always exclude a group of people. In this case, I really liked the idea of using names from different parts of the world, especially without trying to match the color of the eye shadow with skin color or some other racist correlation. But I know other people might feel differently.

Do you think this type of marketing is problematic or inclusive?

On another note, the colors and formula are amazing. They are highly pigmented and blend really well. And they are completely matte!  One of my favorite colors is Matt Lombardi, because as the "nude" color of the palette, it works really well with my yellow toned skin. (Most nude colors are much too pink for me and give an odd hue to my eye shadow.)

Here are some looks I have done with the palette.

Thankfully I wised up and fixed my gross eyebrows.

Warning: vain bathroom photo ahead.

So, the product is great but I am still on the fence with the packaging.  I'm leaning towards liking it but I might be biased since I know a Matt Garcia.

The biggest con, however, is the price: At $42 dollars for 9 eye shadows, Meet Matt(e) Nude doesn't come cheap.
