30 for 30 Day Challenge

September 12, 2013

Well, call me inspired. I wanted to join Val with her 30 Day Challenge since the beginning, but hesitated since I started a new job and wanted to ease into that first. (See her final conclusion here!) But since she finally finished her 30 days, I decided to jump into it too (sorry I didn't do it with you Val!). I was also deciding if I should wait for it to get colder or not, but lets be real - I'm terrible at layers anyways.

So, while picking out my 30 items of clothing, I wanted to make use of the clothing in my closet that rarely gets any use. I was adamant with myself on picking at least 5 items that I haven't worn in over a year, or have only worn one or two times since I've owned it. I had a terrible time picking out 30 items and ended up with 27 items. I really did not want to throw in clothing JUST to add it in since I was satisfied with what I picked out. I guess it gives me a little wiggle room in case I want to add something on (is that cheating?)

But just a quick reminder - the basic rules of this challenge is to pick out 30 items of clothing (shoes included) to be incorporated into 30 outfits. Accessories do not count.

ANYWAYS - here is what I picked out.

THE UNUSED COLORFUL SHIRTS: All four of these shirts fall into the category of barely worn. I'm always drawn to bright colors when purchasing items and sometimes I have to ask myself... fun or fugly? For this challenge, I wanted to make sure I brought in some color, so hopefully these shirts work out.

A colorful start.... click below to see the more basic items.

THE MORE BASIC SHIRTS: My array of navy, black, and white tops. The peter pan tank in the upper left was one of my picks since its been sitting in my closet untouched in about 2 years!

Peter Pan Tank: UO
Diamond tank: Madewell
Striped boatneck: Zara
Navy tank: Madewell
Patterned shirt: Madewell

OUTWEAR: I seriously have not worn any type of outwear in MONTHS, but I thought I should throw some in just in case it gets chilly. I also  put my button up chambray here since I use it as outerwear a lot.

 Denim polka dotted jacket: Target
Chambray: Gap
Striped double breasted cardigan: Uniqlo (also barely worn)

THE PANTS: I made sure each pair of pants I chose were different cuts and colors. The reason I have so many pants compared to dresses/skirts/shorts is due to practicality. I need to be comfortable at work since I move around a lot  - so I always wear pants and sometimes midi skirts.
Left to right:
Black skinny jeans (F21)
Tan straight leg pants (Madewell)
Skinny tapered slacks (J Crew Minnies)
Cropped and tapered (Target)
Comfy linen (Mango)

SHORTS: Its Texas, its going to stay warm for awhile.

H&M // JCrew

SKIRTS: Midi skirts I can wear to work and a chambray circle skirt just to change it up a bit. I really want to add a third skirt but I just didn't know what! Or I just hate my closet.

Pleated navy midi: Asos
Chambray circle skirt: Blanco

SHOES: I wear flats 5 out 7 days out of the week due to work, soooo no need for heels for this challenge. Though I threw in a pair of red wedges just in case.

Red wedges: UO
Gold oxfords: Seychelles
Nude ankle flats: F21
Black sandals: Asos
Driving loafers: Bass
Studded loafers: F21

So out of 27 items, 6 items I haven't worn in over a year - some even in 2 years! I like the colors and pieces I chose, so I hope this turns out well and not boring. Things I'm proud of: one polka dotted item, 2 striped items (though I was trying to limit it to 1), and only one chambray shirt. I seriously started out with my 3 chambray tops but cut it all out for one basic denim shirt.

I still have 3 items I could add in though, so should I go ahead and pick out 3 more things? I'm thinking along the lines of skirts and dresses if I did.
