I started following Lora Arellano on Instagram (@loreleicakes) a couple of months ago and have been hooked ever since. She has so many AMAZING makeup looks, several which I don't have the skills to mimic.

Gradient lip tutorial
I used lighting that washed me out in hopes of showing off the color more. It is still a work in progress!
1) For this look, make sure your lips are smooth and moisturized. You can gently brush your lips with your toothbrush when you are brushing your teeth or you can get a q-tip and Vaseline (or ChapStick) and rub the dead skin off.
2) Real talk, my lips are not nearly as perfect as Lora's. I have a somewhat small mouth and my lips are not perfectly symmetrical. (Check out my Oaxacan dress, Toni)
3) With smaller lips, I suggest lining right outside the shape of your lips with a lip pencil, filling in the corners. I used MAC's Nightmonth. This could be a TBT of my middle school chola phase. It doesn't matter if it is messy, you will be blending it in later.
4) Smooth the line without bringing the color too far inwards. You can always wipe some off if you do!
5) Fill the rest of your lip with a lighter lipstick. I used MAC's Ruby Roo. Then blend it in with a clean lip brush (I lost mine seconds before this tutorial, typical) so I used a soft brush + q-tip.
6) This might horrify makeup artists around the world, but so what who cares. I applied a Revlon eyeliner pen (which I hated as a liquid eyeliner) to the corners of my lip. I like the Cheshire Cat look so I added a little bit of a wing. Then I cover it in Nightmonth again.

7) Keep blending and adding color accordingly.
8) Fix your imperfections. I took an angle brush and concealer and carved out the lip shape I want to keep. Top is off with some Make Up Forever powder and you are done!!
9) This is an alternative step. I put a little bit of concealer to the middle of my lip to create more of a gradient.
Don't forget to blend everything!!! You can see the ring of concealer around my lips and that's not cute.
I still have some kinks to fix, but I am happy with the outcome. One day I will build up the courage to actually make a video.
Until then, please comment if you have any questions!
