This Charming Nail

May 28, 2013

I wanted to wait for the weekend to post about Hex, but when the Bolt bus showed up an hour late with no wifi or outlets I had little choice.

I hope I can get a short interview with the owners of Hex Nail Jewelry (www.hexnailjewelry.com) soon. These two sisters out of LA seem really cool and are very talented.  Also, they are women of color!  What more can I ask for?

Here are a couple samples of their work from their website:

Took a lot of will power not to buy 10 of the Cadillac charms. Maybe on my next purchase.

So I decided to start slow and got two different charms; the crucifix and "bitch." The order took longer than I expected, but they emailed me saying they threw in a few more to make up for it. I thought that was very polite, which I almost never think when buying things online.

I love them. Beyond love. The "bitch" charm is probably my favorite since it is so flat. The crucifix was challenging because I have really curved nails. I had to bend back Jesus' arms with tweezers so it would sit on my nail better. I hope my parents never read that sentence, the dang Catholic guilt.

The site recommends just using top coat to adhere the charms to your nails. I was very doubtful at first, but 24 hours later they are still going strong. I would assume this is a short term decoration. I probably give them 2 to 7 days depending on how rough you are with your hands.

I apologize for such a terrible manicure, I bought $2 nail polish and it is showing. But even with my half-assed paint job, my nails look pretty badass.

So support your fellow WOC and order some charms!
