Happy June! Wow, I really can't believe it. New Year's Eve feels like it was yesterday, and 2007 feels like it was just last year instead of 6 years ago. Time flies, and even more so as you get older, I feel. It actually really depresses me.
It was a pretty tough week at work, and the last two days were especially difficult. In case you haven't read my bio, I'm a behavioral therapist for children with autism, on the spectrum, or with Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified (better known as PDD). It is not a career for me, and I don't intend to continue with it as one, so it's just a job. One I've been doing for a little over 5 years, and one that exhausts me every single day.
I love being a part of progress, and I love helping children (especially the little ones for early intervention), but despite how used to tantrums, crying, and screaming I am, it takes a huge toll on you. The last few days were especially high in the frequency and intensity of these behaviors so I'm a little low on the energy to write anything Serious. I also had a little small, but recurrent, realization that I'm just not where I had envisioned myself with regards to finance, career, and marriage at 27. It's a thought that always lingers at the back of my mind, and when I have tough weeks or days, it's quick to surface. I think it's something that I'll never be able to reconcile, a life I envisioned with what life really is now and as I get older, it's something that grows more and more impossible to do.
Anyway, it's June, it's closer to summer, and closer to more fun outdoor events like fairs and festivals. Last weekend, I went to a strawberry festival. I expected it to be pretty similar to the Asparagus festival Michelle went to, with novel strawberry recipes and foods, but it wasn't. It was really more like a fair-your typical fair rides like the Tilt A Whirl (which we went on twice and cracked up all throughout) and the ferris wheel (which we also went on and I was literally holding on for dear life), foods like giant hot dogs and corn and cotton candy and everything deep fried, games for prizes, and vendors with neat or strange items. They basically tacked on "strawberry" to "festival" to make it sound more appealing. The only strawberry item I consumed was just plain strawberries on top of my shortcake, which, while really delicious, was nowhere near wacky or innovative or new. But, the important thing was I had fun and so I can't really complain.
